In the first of its kind, this moving image artwork is part of a series of special visual arts commissions for the Filipino arts platform Maharlika UK.
The Warriors Soul series is a dynamic expression of contemporary Filipino identity in the UK.
“Calling to what was lost in our colonial history, we summon our ancestral roots with symbols such as falling rice and designs inspired by indigenous tattoos. We journey through the contemporary British Filipino struggle via contrasting capitalist emblems with changes in costume and movement revealing our complex existence”

Maharlika UK is an immersive exploration into the unspoken narratives of the British-Filipino experience.
Ma-har-lika – meaning noble class, warrior & freedman in the ancient Filipino language, symbolising the independence and power of Filipinos from their colonial history.
Now in its third iteration, this cultural evening highlights UK-Filipino communities. Showcasing original British-Filipino short films and now visual art led by UK-Filipino based artists. With live artist interviews, Q&As and panel discussions – exploring creativity, resilience, and the power of untold stories.
